A job in which you get to organize, observe and analyze? Sign me up.
I notice that with every class speaker we delve deeper into the processes of user experience. While we learned about overall product design and development in relation to CarMax, he skimmed the idea of a lean-startup and the specific details of UX research tools. Dr. Cheng Hong exposed us the specific types of research used to analyze the user experience and how other interact with the product. My product, being my website is existing in this space for professional reasons. As I continue these blogs I think I will revaluate my motives, but I want to use my corner of the internet to show potential employers who I am outside my resume.
Sums up my thoughts about my site while mid UX research
From my observations after talking to my graduating friends and peers who have already graduated, we prioritize different criteria when it comes to the job search. While our parents might have valued a job for the sake of the job and supporting family, I think we value company culture, and finding a space we enjoy working in, and doing job we love. With that being said I think it has become important for the employer to get a sense of who we are outside the work place to determine whether we are a good "fit" socially for the company. So my question I want to solve with this site is, am I a great fit? Am I showing enough of my work, enough of my self to impress my dream employer, but not where it's too much like links to my social media. And at that point am I being unauthentic? Questions.
But never mind the brief existential crisis. Keeping the goals of my website in mind, I think it would be beneficial to do card sorting for any other potential tabs, pages or sections I might want to add, interviews purely because I enjoy interacting with others, and probably usability testing because it is a hands on approach. All of these ideas and thoughts are works in progress but thank you Dr. Cheng for sharing your knowledge and guiding us into our first take a UX research!
